My students are beyond amazing! They come to school each day eager to learn! We are at a Title I school in Nevada, where many students believe New York or Paris is just a few miles away on the strip. This has to change!
I have adjusted the way I teach from a text, or a set curriculum, to teaching by experiences; my students have never soaked up so much information in all my thirteen years of teaching.
We use challenging vocabulary words each week and thrive to find multiple ways to use them, whether it be watching a live feed of a lady "coax" an abandoned puppy from under a house (this went viral), or having a Glow Party to learn about odd and even numbers. Our favorite was "traveling" to Italy for lunch and having to fix the menu that had no punctuation! I have never been so excited to go to work each day and my students that have attendance problems in the past are actually coming to school!
Please help us out..these kids are "going places!"
We are ready to review all the math standards we have learned so far this year. What better way to show off each students' math skills than by turning into real math detectives!!!
My 2nd math detectives will walk into our MysteryMath Lab (classroom) to solve math problems!
They will crack codes, solve word problems, and race through math facts...all in their Top Secret notebooks! The detectives will work to earn points as they crack each of the cases. As a child, it always is more exciting (and the students are willing to work even harder) when there are disguises involved. The hats, the figerprints, and footprints galore will help set the stage to engage!
When these transformations happen, not only do my students work harder and I can increase the rigor, but I may have a future detective in here that just needed an introduction to case work!
If you've never seen a classroom transformation, you'll love receiving the photos of our day. Learning while having fun CAN happen! Thank you for helping us make this possible!
