Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Approximately 700 unique 7th and 8th graders attend my middle school. We are a diverse population with a variety of backgrounds, cultures, experiences, and academic strengths. 74% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 1 in 7 of our students receives special education services, and 16 different languages are spoken on our campus.
While every student is one-of-a-kind, all students share the desire and enthusiasm to experience their education through Physical Education.
Many of our students come from homes where their parents are working, so joining a sport keeps the students in a safe environment. It has become clear that it is the school's responsibility to support students in their physical education.
My Project
My students would enjoy to watch a movie each quarter as an incentive in the classroom. We have laptops for our teacher computer so the dvd player that is external would plug into my laptop to be used on the projector to show the students a movie.
Movies allow students to see how math is used in many different ways.
The wide variety of movies allows the students to be able to see different types of movies and how math is related to them all in a variety of ways. The movies involve math or are inspirational of some sort. I think it is important to allow students to earn the privilege to have fun in the classroom. The movies that are not completely math related would be used as a fun extra incentive throughout the school year.
