Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
No one is born financially literate. In fact, it is an important math skill that needs to be learned and taught in school at an early age in order for students to develop personal finance skills. Students at an early age should be understand concepts related to responsible spending and money.
My fabulous first graders are amazing!
They are sweet, smart, and incredibly ready to learn! They are like little sponges coming in each day ready to grow and understand even more about their world! Our school is a Title I school and the majority of the students qualify for free lunch. They come from low income families where both parents work in order to maintain their household. My students need as many visual aides and interactions when learning math as possible to make their learning more meaningful and comprehensible. Unfortunately, my students do not have access to technology in their homes due to economic hardships. The only place they are able to access technology is at school, and our school is limited due to severe budget cuts.
My Project
My first grade students need 5 iPad Minis in order to access interactive educational math websites and applications that will help them practice adding and identifying money, as well as making change with coins. They also need to learn how to manipulate US Currency to be able to understand math concepts related to finance, business, and responsible spending habits. Understanding these concepts are of critical importance to their economic future.
With the iPad Minis, my students will be able to develop successful money management habits and develop financial responsibility. They will discover that a dollar does not go far, but with some sound advice and learning, it can be stretched!
With your generous donations, my students will be able to have access to functioning technological devices that will help them access math websites and applications to become financially literate.
Learning financial skills at an early age will help my students spend wisely, save more, and make good financial choices in order for them to be active contributors to our global economy. Donors, thank you in advance for your generosity!
