Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
I am blessed and honored to have the opportunity to work with such diverse and passionate students every day.
My class is truly a family who uplifts each other and encourages each other to grow each and every day. We have every type of student in my class with a large majority ESL, special education inclusion, and every one of them are creative and insightful thinkers that give it their all every day.
Many of them receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, they are happy and excited to be here. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.
My Project
Most students believe they cannot do math! However, that is not the case. I believe all students can develop Mathematical Mindsets. If students can shift their perspectives about math through exploration and collaboration, they will not only do math, but foster an appreciation for it. These laptops can help cultivate many practical skills my students need, including learning to differentiate reliable from unreliable research, creating projects, group presentations, and various uses needed to be global citizens.
Students use technology daily, yet lack skills necessary for academic and career success.
These are very important skills that can easily be developed in the classroom through the use of technology. By using technology in the classroom, students can develop skills essential for the 21st-century learner. Students can gain the skills they will need to be successful in the future. Today, learning is about collaborating with others, solving complex problems, critical thinking, as well as developing different forms of communication and leadership skills.
