My Students

Do you remember what it felt like to finally have your math facts memorized? Complex math concepts become easier when the basics are easily understood.

My second grade math class is full of little learners.

We are a public school in a diverse neighborhood. We have a large variety of socioeconomic statues and cultures. Most of my students are excited about math, but many are struggling. Many of them struggle because they are not confident with basic math facts and do not practice them at home. As soon as I ask the answer to a problem, I see those fingers wiggling and being counted! They have the desire to be quick with facts, but an hour of math every day just isn't enough.

My Project

Being in a public school, we are fortunate to have many things to help us learn. One thing that would help us even more would be to have access to flash cards that could go home. This way, parents could be involved in helping the students master basic adding, subtracting, counting money amounts and time telling.

Memorizing the math facts with these resources would be a large step for many of these students.

Having the resources to practice at home with someone, and in any language, might just be what many of them need to soar with confidence in math!
