Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching middle school has been a rewarding experience for me over the past years. I have gained a better understanding of many special backgrounds of the students I have interacted with. I have challenged myself to adapt to the many different level of learners to help them to be successful. I personally have gained a greater respect for diversity. Students come eager to learn and be challenged. It is exciting to get to know them and their interests.

I am privileged with the opportunity to spend time with students before and after school.

Some are required to come for extra help, while others choose to come to get work completed or for help. This is a great chance to work individually or small group help. During this time, we can chat about school, family, interests, etc. It is rewarding to gain a better understanding of them. Students also feel less anxiety to ask questions and gain more confidence.

My Project

During math we are challenging students to use logic to solve math real life situations. When students are engaged and entertained in math, they continue to learn consciously and unconsciously. While engaging them in activities, students are putting forth more effort to learn new concepts at basic levels to ne challenging levels.

We have found that when students have relaxed math time, they are engaged and retaining more skills to be proficient.

The variety of activities I have chosen, are older manipulatives, but new to the students at this time.
