This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from predominantly low-income households. Many have grown up in Rosamond, CA, and have never ventured too far from the immediate vicinity. Due to the poverty in our community, all students in our district receive free lunch and breakfast. My students come from families that see education as a way to break out of poverty.

My students are great problem solvers and learn how to make do with less.

Most of my students want to go to college and become people who make something of themselves. They want to make their families proud, especially when they are the first in their family to go to college.

My Project

Hands on learning is incredibly important when it comes to math. The hands on, whiteboard manipulatives that are included in this project are going to help my students better learn their multiplication facts and long division, two critical concepts for 6th grade math, and for the rest of their lives.

The project would also allow me to give my students access to class sets of calculators, math games for early finishers to practice math skills, and additional small group sets that will allow them to learn surface area and volume in a hands on way.
