Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and curious children who live in a high poverty, high density urban area. They often have limited experiences outside of this urban environment. They love learning and need to widen their background knowledge to help them engage in challenging academic subjects. They come to school looking for us to provide many of the basics they need for success. My students are lucky to be in a school with many community partners and nearby arts and cultural resources. They love learning and embrace opportunity and adventure with open hearts and wide smiles.
My Project
My special education students need to develop their reading skills to become better mathematicians. Developing critical thinking skills in our current math curriculum requires not just computational skills but also fluid reading skills.
Reading is an important component of math mastery.
My special education students need to develop their reading skills so they can actively participate in the common core math taught in the general education classroom. This library would allow readers of all abilities to develop reading fluency while learning math vocabulary and concepts. My students need this library to help their intervention time translate into a mastery of mathematics in their general education classroom.
