Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a class full of diverse students from many areas of Los Angeles. Many of my students travel by bus very early in the morning. They then travel by bus and arrive home late in the afternoon. They do this to get the best possible education available to them.
My students are very curious and so very kind!
They come from a variety of different backgrounds and different experiences. They are eager to learn and make the best of their education. When exposed to new concepts, they get very excited and are eager to explore these concepts deeper. These students are our future marine biologists, physicists, and mathematicians as long as we keep them excited about these fields.
My Project
Third grade is a big year for math and science. We want to provide our students with the opportunity to work independently to explore both math and science.
These materials will help students explore math concepts with hands on activities.
The Newton's Cradle will help students grasp the idea of Newton's third law (every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction).
The playing cards are used to play math games to reinforce addition, subtraction, and multiplication concepts.
The Rekenrek materials are used to reinforce basic math concepts taught in grades K - 2. The Rekenreks also are used to explore multiplication and division.
The timers are used for timed activities, understanding the concepts of how long seconds, minutes, and hours are.
