Help me give my students the math folder games, modeling compound, books, Boogie Boards, a thermal laminator and pouches, learning letters activity centers, kinetic sand, and storage boxes.
I teach at an elementary school in American Fork, Utah. I have twelve first through fifth graders in my small group classroom for children with autism.
My students are expected to work hard each day and they typically meet that expectation.
We have a wide range of capabilities and difficulties that make our classroom fun and interesting. Throughout the school year, we work on the academics of a typical classroom such as math, reading, and writing, in addition, we learn self-help, functional, and social skills.
My Project
I am requesting a wide variety of versatile materials that will give my students opportunities to learn math in fun and engaging ways.
My students range in abilities from learning to count and identify numbers to being able to complete multi-digit addition and subtraction equations.
Having a variety of materials will give me the ability to meet the varied needs of my students in new and creative ways.
I am requesting a set of math file folder games. In my classroom I use these for concepts that the students can do independently. It gives them opportunities to learn that they can complete projects without help. The Boogie Boards are a great tool that my students enjoy using when working on math skills in small groups. Some of my students are sensitive to using paper and pencil and the Boogie Boards are a great substitute. In addition I'm requesting a laminator and laminating sheets that I'll use to protect math equation flash cards and math vocabulary flash cards that we use in my classroom. The storage bins will be used to create math boxes that will hold materials to practice math standards.
I am also requesting some sensory materials for my students. Children with autism process sensory information differently and having these materials will enable them to get the sought after sensory input.
