Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember solving math problem after math problem using only pencils and paper? NO MORE! My learners will be working to grow their understanding through hands-on activities and discussions with their peers!
My students are looking forward to being amazing mathemeticians!
I am new to our school. I will be teaching 70-75 5th grade students mathematics this year. Our students come from many different walks of life. While some families are able to contribute, others are not.
The children will be focusing their time on learning new strategies to solve more complicated math problems. We will work together as We teach each other new methods and ways to explain our thinking.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning. The method and style in which they learn best vary greatly. I utilize a variety of learning strategies, group work, and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met right where they are! The students are truly incredible, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited to learn.
My Project
The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom. Students use whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and the whiteboards slowly become stained from frequent use. When something goes wrong with their boards or we run out of markers, they must, as a last resort, get a paper and pencil.
By donating to our project, you will help us ensure that we have boards in new condition and plenty of markers.
By helping us get some hands-on materials and much needed essential supplies, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or whether we have anything left. They will be able to focus their attention on becoming amazing mathemeticians and probably teaching me a few new things along the way!
