Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you love math? I do and I want the same for my students! I teach a wonderful group of students at a Title I school. Over 70% of the students are Hispanic and are learning the English language.
My students love to learn and want to be successful, especially in math.
Due to the language barrier and other socioeconomic factors, my students are not currently working on their grade level. They do not have the necessary prior knowledge or materials at home and have fallen behind their peers in mathematics. Many of them are not enthusiastic about learning math because it is overwhelming for them. It is hard for them to learn material on their grade level because they lack number sense and the basic skills. The lack of resources and structure during the Covid-19 quarantine also did not help the students.
My Project
The materials I have requested will be helpful for teaching my students right now! The markers and mesh bags can be used to ensure that each student has their own materials and keep them separate from others. The Splash Math Game is a game that we can use even though the COVID protocols are in place. The materials are such that the students can use them with the plexiglass dividers, practice their fact fluency, and still follow the Covid guidelines for safety. The ink cartridges and Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will be used to print and purchase differentiated materials that the students can use for in-person or E-Learning days.
