Although we are a small community, we have a very diverse school population, with the majority of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. Even though we are not considered a Title I school by the county, we could be.
I currently teach 4th grade in one of the 5 public elementary schools in our area.
All of my students are excited about school and have a great desire to learn. They have an enthusiasm to learn new things and be able to discuss their opinions on various topics. I have to teach basic skills like sharing, getting along, and being organized. These skills are essential for success. I also teach them how to read, comprehend, and create written responses to various types of texts such as informational, fictional literature, poetry, and fables. Not only do I teach reading and writing, I also teach them the skills necessary to become successful in the critical areas like science, technology, engineering, and math. It is important to have a classroom that makes the students feel they can be successful and organized in. I also feel that it is important for the students to enjoy learning.
My Project
The students in my class are very eager to learn, but sometimes it is difficult to remember how to do some of the more challenging topics. such as fractions. By participating in engaging activities, such as the Fractions Activity Station, the students will be able to practice what they have learned in a fun, interactive, cooperative learning environment.
Who says that learning has to be boring?
That's why I would like to provide my students with the Mastering Math Games Library. With all of the technology in young people's lives today, it is refreshing to see their faces light up when they get to play an actual board game. By participating in these math games, the students will reinforce the skills that they have learned while enjoying themselves. It has been my experience that when students are engaged, they tend to retain more information. This is the experience that I would like to provide my students with.
