I teach in a Title I school. The majority of students at my school get free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students come to kindergarten without preschool experience. Therefore, we start at the beginning, teaching basic letter identification, and by the end of kindergarten they are reading!
My students have hard lives outside of school, but the minute they step into my classroom they know that they are loved.
They know they are there to learn and become the successful individuals that they can be.
My Project
My students are in need of engaging math games that allow them to learn STEM concepts in a hands-on, engaging way.
Math should be a time when students can interact with one another, discuss math concepts with other students and apply their knowledge, not recite it.
Math should not be about worksheets and solo work. These math stations and the containers that will hold them, will allow students to independently run math games without needing assistance from the teacher. That means that as the teacher, I can maximize my time in small group instruction. The number houses, let's fish math games, and counting grids will allow students to have fun while learning and using counting collections.
These math games will benefit my students this year and for years to come.
