I have the privilege of working with 20-30 creative, thoughtful, and imaginative second graders every year. We spend our days exploring and learning about everything from addition and subtraction to Chicago long ago, and everything in between. Each day my students enter my classroom excited to have a safe space where they can continue to grow.
The students in my classroom come from all over the world with varying experiences and backgrounds.
We use this diversity to learn from each other and engage in meaningful discussions about our world. Chicago is a wonderfully diverse city that allows my students to experience cultures from around the world right in their own classroom.
My Project
In 2nd grade we are learning all about addition, subtraction, place value, and money. Students are practicing everyday on improving their math practice and number sense.
Math games help enhance student math learning in a fun and engaging way!
They will use these books and games to compliment their learning every day. This not only fosters a love of math, but gives my students the opportunity to practice working cooperatively with their classmates.
Every Friday we have a class market in our room. Students earn class money for the jobs that they do in our classroom, and they practice making decisions about what to spend or save for at our market. By using the toy money at the market and class bank, students practice adding and subtracting in a real life experience. We learn about why people choose to save money, why you might spend money, and everything in between!
