Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like sitting in math class doing everything with just a pencil and paper? Please help my students experience hands-on learning in math. By allowing the students to create their own learning experiences in math they will not only learn more but also enjoy it!
The students in my class are wonderful children who work hard in class.
They come from low-income families. They are sweet and work hard in class, but do not always have the supplies they need to succeed in school. Many of our students were unable to purchase the basic school supplies or uniforms at the beginning of school. Another prevalent issue that our students face on a daily basis is gang influence. We are working hard to teach the students more than just the core curriculum, but also that they can succeed outside of the classroom.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of math resources. The first unit in our curriculum has to do with multiplication, division, and factors. The flip chart, book of dice activities, multiplication game, and other books will be vital for this unit. The number line chart will help with place value. The graphing resource book will help in our geometry unit. I have also asked for a nice manipulative set which includes Unifix Cubs, Pattern Blocks, Geometric Foam Shapes, Fraction Circles, Plastic Coins, Foam Dice, Double-Sided Counters, Tangrams, Dominoes, Place Value Blocks, Paper Money, and Number Tiles. All of these supplies will give the students the opportunity for hands-on learning in the classroom. I have listed a class set of base ten blocks to help with a variety of math skills. The geoboards will assist the students as they learn about area of shapes. In order to keep the supplies organized and ready for use, we will use a storage unit with clear trays. Thank you for your support!
The students in my classroom do not have much at home, and our resources at school are limited.
Many of the students are low performing in math skills and greatly need to have some hands-on learning supplies to help their understanding. Not only will it benefit the students' learning in the math classroom, but getting these math resources remind the students that there are people out there that care about them. This is one way to show the students how valuable education really is! Thank you!
