My students are a diverse group of first graders who attend an urban, public elementary school in Northern California. My students come from a variety of socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds and speak a variety of languages. They come to school with a broad range of learning experiences.
My students are eager to learn and do their best.
They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can to be successful one day. My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day!
My Project
My students need math materials like pattern blocks to help them understand new math concepts and standards. "Learn by doing" is the philosophy that I use during our school day, but especially during math time. Math manipulatives are important to help students get a better understanding of the concepts we are learning. I want my students to fall in love with math. In order for that to happen, it needs to be meaningful and fun. Manipulatives help students to understand concepts and make them feel like they are playing at the same time. The more they enjoy math, the more they will practice, and the more they practice the more they will learn!
These math manipulatives will allow us to be able to work in small groups to solve problems and play math games.
It will also help students to understand the process of math rather than just working out a problem on a worksheet. Manipulatives make learning math more engaging for students. Making them want to learn is half the battle. Manipulatives make math more fun and are a huge motivation!
