With the adoption of the new common core curriculum in math, my students need many specific math materials to manipulate and use in order to gain a concrete understanding of essential math concepts. Unfortunately, we are lacking many of these materials.
My students reside in the beautiful state of Utah and attend a k-6 elementary school where quality learning is emphasized.
We have a diverse population with many learning styles and needs. Although we make efficient and maximum use of the funds we receive, we find ourselves lacking many essential materials necessary for a quality education.
My Project
We are in desperate need of math manipulatives that will reinforce key math concepts like Nasco's Place Value to Millions/Decimal Tabletop Student Flip Charts,
Two-Color Counters, Place Value Disks, and Cuisenaire Plastic Rods. I want my students to have experiences in math that will motivate them and give them the best opportunity to become proficient. Allowing them hands-on experiences with materials will help them better grasp important concepts. Such activities are also fun and exciting and students develop a more positive attitude toward mathematics.
These math manipulatives can be used for many years and will positively impact hundreds of students as they experience our math program.
I am looking forward to the excitement and eagerness my students will exhibit as they engage in activities with these materials.
