This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are enthusiastic third graders from a high poverty area. They come to school everyday to get a good education to try to prepare for a better future.
My students have to overcome the odds that are stacked against them.
My students come to me reading and writing one, two and even three years below grade level. My school is a Title 1 school, so every student receives free breakfast and lunch. Without this, many of my students might not eat at all. My students have difficult home lives with some living in homeless shelters and most living in low-income housing. My students deserve opportunities and materials that will help prepare them for their future!
My Project
These materials will help my students be successful. My students are hands-on, visual learners. Having materials that will allow them to visualize the concepts we are learning about will help my students make connections. The fraction bars, fraction circles, bingo games and elapsed time center will allow students to be able to work with these important skills in a variety of ways, which will help my students grasp these difficult concepts. This will allow them to be successful in third grade and will also help them gain the foundation for future grades so that they can experience success throughout the rest of their schooling. These materials will help bring all my students up to grade level!
