Math Manipulatives for Menehune

Help me give my students math manipulatives and whiteboards to build a concrete understanding of numbers and operations.

My Project

My first graders need to have concrete, hands-on experiences with manipulatives to build strong number sense and a solid foundation for math concepts. Due to Covid, students are no longer allowed to share materials with other students in the classroom so there is a need for every child to have their own math manipulatives and whiteboard to work with.

Students are more engaged and learn more deeply when given the opportunity to physically build, move, and manipulate different pieces to represent number relationships.

Using digital manipulatives or picture cut outs is not the same as having hands-on, multi-sensory objects.

We use whiteboards and manipulatives every day for both math and reading because these tools encourage every student to participate and demonstrate his/her learning. Even while students are all spread apart, they will be able to deepen their learning with individual sets of these items.
