My students need math manipulatives (dice, fraction tiles, protractors, rulers, playing cards, etc.) in order to be fully engaged in math instruction. Math manipulatives allow a hands-on approach to grasping important math concepts.
My students are the hardest working, and most amazing students in the world! They have a love for learning, and it shows every day when they walk through the door.
I am a first year fourth grade teacher at is a Title I public school located in a rural part of Georgia.
Title I means over 65% of our school student population is living below the poverty line. Though many of my students face many obstacles, it does not stop them from wanting to learn.
My Project
Manipulatives are physical objects that are used as teaching tools to engage students in the hands-on learning of mathematics. Putting math manipulatives into the hands of my students will allow them to dig deeper into the math they are learning.
Research shows that using math manipulatives gives students the opportunity to get a concrete understanding of mathematics.
There are so many uses for math manipulatives in the classroom. Dice and playing cards can be used a tons of math games like Remainders Wanted and Mixed Up Kings. Rulers and protractors will be used for measuring, and fraction tiles will be used when learning about fractions.
