Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from challenging backgrounds in a tough area with the poverty level high. They are determined to overcome the obstacles in their community by attending a school of choice. They come into my classroom with a great "Good Morning!" as they pick up a book and begin silent reading before the day begins. Despite the hardships at home or in the neighborhood, my students come in with a positive attitude willing to learn and better their academic needs.
My Project
Math is a great subject to teach! There are a lot of concepts to cover in first grade that are brand new to my students. I love working with my first graders on their math skills. Adding, subtracting, measuring, time... it is all so great to teach! Seeing my students' faces working on their numbers with hands on centers is amazing. I am missing time, measurement and counting to 120 centers for my students to have during their center work time. These games from Lakeshore will be perfect for my students to use to help them grasp these new, and sometimes difficult concepts
