Do you remember learning math concepts for the first time? Math concepts can be very difficult but by making math fun and hands on, students are able to learn in an exciting way and begin to have the "want" to learn more and more!
Students at our school want to learn but school can be very difficult.
With more resources, we will be able to help more students to learn the basic concepts which are building blocks for the rest of their lives. With these basic building blocks, we will be able to send them to middle school and beyond with true math knowledge.
My Project
These resources will allow students to truly "see" the math concepts in their own hands through discovery. When kids can truly see why something works, it allows them to not only understand the concepts but to be able to explain them to others and to use them in various contexts. With the dominoes and dice, students will be able to expand their knowledge of numbers and number sense. They will help to solve basic problems as well as real world problems. Counters will allow the students to visually see many number concepts but specifically help with positive and negative numbers. Students are able to play with the manipulative's to gain a true understanding of how numbers work. Finally, the geometric shapes will help students to learn concepts of area, volume and surface area. It has been found that by being able to touch and feel the shapes, students are able to find and truly understand the concept of area as well as learning 3-D shapes.
Our project is important because kids want to learn, but we need to provide all the possible resources to truly allow them to see and understand the important concepts in math and in the world we live in.
