Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am honored to provide the kindergarten experience for a lovely group of 25 little learners. They brighten my day with their smiles and angelic giggles. Engaging a 5 year old over zoom is not easy, but I borrowed one of my daughters stuffies to adopt as our class mascot Ziggy. They LOVE him and he keeps them wanting to attend all the morning meetings as well as their reading, math, science, and social studies classes. They are inspiring me to continue learning new ways to interact and learn in our ever changing world.
My Project
Many of my students lack access to basic school supplies in their homes. By providing all students with scissors, glue sticks, and dry erase markers, I hope to improve the students' engagement with the lessons and work completion.
Another basic supply that my students could really use are the linking cubes for Math.
Several students were given cubes from the district at the beginning of the year, but some did not receive them, and many of those who did have since misplaced them. This makes it difficult to engage students in meaningful guided practice during our short Zoom Math lessons. I know that if all the students have the cubes, students will develop a stronger number sense and improve their Math fluency overall.
