My students need math manipulatuves to provide an innovative, hands on approach to learning geometry.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
First things first, the students I teach come from a Title I district. As many of you may know, this means that a large percentage of these students live at or below the poverty line. Their lives can range from being raised by a grandparent or a single parent to living in hotels for extended periods of time. Each student has his or her own back story. These are factors that play a huge role in their education that I personally cannot control.
I also think these factors play a huge part into why my students are so awesome!
Although a vast majority of my students face adversity at home, they are able to come into their third grade classroom and become kids again. I have done this by allowing students to be themselves through their learning. They are surrounded by nothing but love and security. When students are allowed to be themselves, the educational gains are endless.
I am requesting math manipulatives that are geared towards geometry because of the positive impact it will have on my students educational experience. These particular math manipulatives allow the student to have fun creating and playing with shapes while learning a thing or two about geometry. The educational benefits of these manipulatives are endless.
Giving students the opportunity to work with manipulatives is always the best approach to learning.
This allows for the students to work with their hands and engage them in the learning process in a way that is fun and relatable. Geometry is a particular area of mathematics that can be somewhat difficult for students if they do not have access to math manipulatives. Therefore, this project will expands my students ability to grow in the realm of mathematics tremendously!
