Help me give my students the tools they need to experience hands on math! Being able to see, touch and manipulate counters and magna tiles will help students be able to truly understand math concepts.
By the end of the year, my goal is for my students to love learning, be independent readers and thinkers, and realize the potential they have to offer the world!
My students are very energetic special needs students from kindergarten, first and second grade.
I have students with a variety of backgrounds and learning experiences in my classroom and each student presents unique needs and challenges. Most of them are performing below academic standards and have to work very hard just to keep up. My goal is to help them learn in a way that is fun and engaging!
Many of my students look forward to coming to a safe, nurturing environment at school. We are a Title I school and a large number of our students receive free or reduced-cost lunch or other Title I services.
My Project
The items in this project will help me bring abstract, difficult math concepts to life for students. Students will use the counting rings to visualize similarities and differences between objects as they sort them. They will use the multi colored counters to work with part/whole, addition and subtraction, ten frames, and probability. The magna tiles will be used for math as well as science as we study each shape and its attributes and in science as we study magnets. I hope to bring math to life and make it fun and exciting by using these bright, colorful and even glow in the dark materials!
