My Students

I teach at an inner-city school where I have a very diverse group of students. My classes have special education as well as English as a second language. They are not only educationally diverse, but economically and socially diverse as well.

Each week, my students get to perform a cooking lab.

For many students, this is the highlight of their day.

My Project

An important part of learning how to cook is understanding math and fractions. Fractions and doubling a recipe are just a few ways we use math in class. Making math fun is the first step. Being able to eat is another step. If you add both steps together, you get a room full of teenagers having fun while learning. Nothing brings a teacher more joy than students having fun while learning. Purchasing these items will help provide much needed math materials for my students to learn about fractions, which is a daunting subject topic for almost every teacher.
