My students need math manipulative materials. The visual aids will help students understand the learning objectives needed to be successful in third grade.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I try to provide my students meaningful learning experiences.
My students love to learn, love to read, and love the positive environment in my classroom.
Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch. My students do not have a lot of support at home. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
This project focuses on the subject of math. Students will be able to take a hands on approach to learning. By having the giant magnetic math manipulatives, students will be able to take pages from their textbooks and bring them to life. For example, the magnetic number lines will be used to show the relationship between different fractions and whole numbers. Students will be able to see where fractions fall on a number line and compare them. Fractions are a challenge for 3rd graders because it is a new skill that is introduced. The giant fractional parts set will allow students to see the relationship between different fractions when trying to create a whole. Students will manipulate the materials to show equivalent parts compared to one whole. The study of area and perimeter can also be a challenge for 3rd grade students. Having the magnetic graph chart will be used to help show area and explain perimeter to students. This allows students to be engaged and take ownership in their learning.
The materials will be used to reach student goals in mastery of our state math standards.
From using number lines to understanding fractions, you can help make math even more enjoyable for my students and invest in their future. All help is welcomed and very much appreciated!
