My students need a hands-on math experience like middle school math games, a geometry/algebra bingo set, 22 ku-du!, and coordinate plane designs to make the topics stick.

My students are part of a very unique learning community in an Illinois charter school, where over thirty languages are spoken and cultures are represented.
They are smart and focused youth who love to learn, and apply themselves to their work.
Our school provides my students with no more than basic materials such as calculators and textbooks. My students thrive when challenged, and enjoy centers where they have to apply their knowledge, but all of our centers are currently homemade.
The students in my class perform much better and are much more motivated when they have a hands-on way to apply their knowledge.
Many of my students have responsibilities at home, meaning they do not get a break at home, however my students come to school everyday excited to learn and participate. My students deserve the best and an opportunity to show their growing knowledge in a fun way.
My Project
My students need a break from our math textbook. Games allow students to take what they work so hard to learn and apply the information. A lot of my students struggle with the application of knowledge, and games force them to do this.
I have requested a geometry/algebra bingo set, middle school math games, 22 ku-du!, and coordinate plane designs to make the topics stick. This will allow my students to get up and move around the classroom.
One of the activities will allow for a daily routine and others will help push my advanced students to the next level. My desire is that my students will truly love math when shown that math is essential and not as abstract as they currently believe it is.
My students are amazingly unique and truly enjoy math.
They love coming to class everyday and are excited to learn new concepts. They deserve to have opportunities given to them that challenge and keep them engaged everyday.
