Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school and classroom is the "happy place" for many of my students. Eighty to ninety percent of my students live in poverty and most are second generation immigrants. Many of my students have difficult home lives. At my school and in my classroom race, culture and religion don't matter. My students are truly "color blind." Since my school is in a high crime area, it is my job as their teacher to create an environment where my students feel safe, comfortable, loved, and important.
My Project
Every day during math, my students have station time. During stations, my students do a variety of things. I work with small groups, some students work on computers, and some do station work or games. I am lacking station materials or the materials that I have are old and needs to be replaced. The dice and the spinners will allow me to create math games for the students. I am also requesting a round table because my students prefer round tables when working in groups. I am also a flexible seating classroom, which means a have a variety of seating options for my children. These materials would greatly impact our math instruction in a positive way. These materials would help my students become more fact fluent entering the fourth grade. Most importantly, these materials will make math fun!
