Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember your first time looking at a clock and trying to tell what time it was or your first time counting money or trying to figure out fractions? Did it all seem foreign to you? Well my students feel the same way.
My first grade class full of six and seven year old boys and girls is located within a public school in an urban city.
Many of my students speak a second language at home. They come to school each day excited about learning something new. Many of them take this excitement back home and teach their parents what they have learned. My students feel a sense of accomplishment when they have mastered a difficult concept.
My Project
The math games that I am requesting would make a huge impact on the way my students view mathematics. Teaching young students the basics of telling time, counting money and fractions is not an easy task. My students look at me as if I have two heads! These math games will reinforce the difficult concepts that I have taught in a way that is fun as well as engaging the students.
Not only will students reinforce concepts learned, but they will also be able to practice working cooperatively. I have noticed that many students have a difficult time sharing and working with others. These games will foster taking turns, being patient and working with others.
Your donation would greatly impact my students with how they view math.
Some of the students see math as boring and difficult. But with your support, students will be able to see that math can be fun and not that hard to grasp.
