I teach grade 7 Special Education Math including the autism program. I have a total of 24 students. My students are the absolute best. They are the apples of my eye. My students are so enthusiastic about coming to my math class. They are eager to learn and have such curious and absorbent minds. My students with special needs are the coolest most awesome souls I have ever met. Sometimes they teach me more about life and love and acceptance than I can ever teach them about math. I want to give them the learning environment they deserve.
My Project
The use of all these awesome math tools will allow my students with special needs to learn math through many creative avenues. The tools and kits I’m hoping for will engage my students at every level. In serving students with special needs, I am always nurturing the abilities they have and challenging them to be the best version of themselves, both as learners and as individuals. The magnetic base ten blocks, fraction tiles, and magnetic coins and bills will go perfectly when students are in learning centers. During our learning centers, students take on curiosity and independence to spark their personal interest and interact with their peers. There are a number of games and strategies I plan to use with these awesome math tools to promote socialization and learning. Most of my students face many challenges in their everyday life. My goal for my classroom environment is to make it as welcoming, nurturing, and encouraging as possible. These learning tools will help me to do exactly that. With your donation my students can be one step closer to achieving their individual goals and engaging in a classroom culture that promotes learning, and fun ways to teach new math strategies.
