What makes my first graders special is their big hearts and open minds! They each have a unique style of learning that suits them best. I love how they always try their best even when unsure of how to tackle a problem. Some of our students and teachers were affected by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, causing some increased economic hardship.
In our classroom, we are a family.
My students are eager learners who work hard and encourage each other to succeed! Our classroom community encourages a growth mindset. If you believe it, you can achieve it!
Some of our daily activities include reading workshop (read to self, buddy read, listening station, free writing, and word study), math workshop (math tubs, computer games, partner problem solving, iPad fact fluency), social studies, science, and more! We love centers and small group instruction time.
My Project
Please help me provide learning materials for my first grade students! We are in dire need of Math manipulatives such as counting bears to explore addition and subtraction as well as graphing by color. I’m also asking for a set of Power Pens! from Lakeshore because they are a favorite way for students to practice fact fluency. It is one of the most engaging ways to motivate students to practice their addition and subtraction facts that I have ever used. Most of my students are at-risk academically, so it is especially challenging to promote academic engagement with my struggling learners. Help me bring a smile to their face with a super fun daily math experience! I’m also asking for a set of Magna-tiles to provide incentives for students reluctant to reach their math goals. Let the learning begin!
