My students need math literature to help them understand and get excited about math through reading! Math literature helps integrate literacy skills into our math block.
Help my students develop deeper understandings of math concepts as they relate to every day life events in these amazing math literature books. These books incorporate the use of math skills into real life problems and events that are engaging for students!
My school is in a high poverty area.
My students are amazing but they have limited resources to help them succeed in school. They typically enter each grade level already behind grade level expectations and require extra help to close the gap between their level of understanding and grade level expectations they must meet by the end of each year. Math literature integrates literacy into our math block, which is so important for students in which English is their second language. Having access to these books will help my students continue building their reading literacy while simultaneous building upon their math literacy.
These math concept literature books will be used at the start of math units to engage my students and get them excited in the math we are going to learn. Once we have learned the concept, the books will be added to our math centers for students to read and enjoy the math stories to help them cement their learning.
My students usually come to my classroom already behind grade level expectations of math understanding.
These books are fun, instructional, and they will get my students excited to close the gap between their math understanding and the level I expect them to exceed by the end of 3rd grade.
