My students need to be challenged with developmentally appropriate materials. The Theme Math and Literacy Centers will offer multiple ways to differentiate materials to reach my students at all levels. The material are engaging and colorful.
I have the privilege to work with preschoolers from diverse backgrounds- both economically and socially. I teach children considered typical developmentally, and those with special needs. More than a third of our students are from low income families. Half of my students have special needs, ranging from communication delays to Autism Spectrum Disorder to Sensory Processing issues. Some are from farm families, and some from inner city neighborhoods. To me, they are young, curious minds excited to learn about their world and each other.
This young group of children brings a sense of wonder and curiosity, and gives me hope for our future world.
They love hands on learning, self-directed play, and opportunities to try new things. I love the sense of community we develop.
We try to take advantage of every teachable moment through questioning, sharing and creating. We have a wide range of abilities and needs, yet a common goal-learning! Every child can learn! This is our motto! Because of the diversity in our classroom, we must offer a wide range of materials and use a variety of ways to access learning.
My Project
These curriculum bundles will offer developmentally appropriate materials for all of my students. The ability to differentiate tasks will be easier to accomplish, and all students will have the opportunity to work on important skills using high interest materials.
The Theme Math and Literacy Centers will become our anchor through the day as we explore the fun, hands on activities through various themes.
The STEM I Can Build bundle will foster exploration into building and engineering. The Counting Stews and Brews bundle and 2D Shape Unit will entice students to learn about counting concepts and skills, and basic shapes. The Question of the Day bundle will become an exciting part of our arrival routine. It will help us to work on communication skills, as well as support math and literacy concepts.
The ability to use these high interest materials with my students will offer me the chance to meet them where they are, and get them to the next level to prepare for kindergarten.
