Help me give my students the opportunity to enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills by providing us with a light table manipulative center, felt board, phonic activities, and more.
My students are caring, loving, and always ready to learn. I teach at a Head Start program with children ages 3-5. We help children and families who are low income and dealing with hardships that life throws at you. As part of our program, we encourage family involvement and provide many community resources to our families. With everything, many of these children are going through it's amazing to see just how happy they are to come to school every day. My classroom is a safe place that gives these children the opportunity they crave, the opportunity to learn. With COVID-19 and virtual learning, it is even more important for us to find new ways to connect with our children and their families.
My Project
Children today have too much screen time. With that being said, I have selected materials that are hands-on. The items I've selected will promote number sense (light table math trays, find number bubbles), letter sense (pop learn letters, build the letter activity), language development (beginning sound phonics, what's happening photo), and cooperative play (light table manipulatives, create a scene felt board, magnetic bug toss). Parents will be able to check out some of the material that I selected to help the preschooler develop a strong foundation for number and letter sense. My plan is to work together with families to utilize each item to strengthen each core area, all while developing and building a strong foundation for learning. I believe these materials will also promote cooperative play through imagination and hands-on learning. I have selected a variety of items that I think the children will really enjoy. My goal is to use these items as a resource to help children grow and reach their full potential in both literacy and mathematics.
