Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello! And thank you for taking the time to read about the amazing children that I have the privilege to teach. A little bit about my students--this is my third year working in Baltimore City, Maryland, and every year my students teach me something new.
This year, I will work with about 45 intelligent, high energy, question asking, fun loving students: they have already expressed their excitement to move on to 6th grade to learn and grow in the classroom.
Many have an affinity toward math and science, and love the hands on nature of both. These students come to school every day in hopes of learning something new, and often share in my excitement when they've reached a new understanding.
Their growth excites me, and makes our classroom culture one that celebrates individual successes and group successes along the way! Not only do my students learn and explore during the school day, but most participate in after school activities as well, such as OrchKids (a city-wide program that teaches students to play musical instruments), Running Club, Book Club, and so on.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting are to prepare my students to be successful 21st-century learners in the math and science classroom. First and foremost, the everyday essentials will help students understand our streamlined routines to optimize our classroom time--that is, these items give every student access to every bit of essential materials that they will need in the classroom, such as notebooks, dry erase markers and erasers, flash card rings, take home folders, etc. With all students armed with the necessary learning materials, that leaves time and space for more learning to happen! They will use their notebooks for note taking and concept exploration; the binder rings for flash card sets and study guides; the take home folders to get homework and important documents to an from school safely; the dry erasers and markers to participate in automaticity and quiz review.
Additionally, I plan to elevate students' learning by tapping into the cyber world and providing them more access to hands-on technology in the classroom.
This is where the student tablets will come in handy--students will be able to access tricky material from multiple sources and mediums. This will give students to opportunity to grapple with difficult concepts on applications and websites such as Zearn, Prodigy Math, Code.com, and learn no only through me and each other but through online sources as well.
Thank you for your support as we prepare for another exciting school year. The growth I saw last year has inspired me to challenge my students even more and support their learning in any way possible.
