My Students
We live in rural Maine with limited resources and a high level of poverty. The students in our school need to be supported to succeed academically and find how they best learn. I teach junior high level mathematics in a small school. My students enjoy the flexibility of learning in small group environments and with teachers who look after not only their academic needs but their needs as a whole. The more we encourage our students to succeed academically, the more they will thrive throughout their lives.
My Project
Math concepts can be learned and explored in many ways.
I would like to fill my classroom with math puzzles and games that help reinforce math concepts while students are enjoying friendly competition and collaboration with their classmates.
These tangram puzzles are a way for students to visualize geometric concepts. Cribbage is a wonderful way to teach kids about math concepts through the use of strategy. These, and other games and puzzles I have previously acquired, are great resources to use with substitutes and other less conventional class times. It helps improve their math skills even when the teacher isn't able to directly teach them, or sometimes is a great addition to what the teacher is teaching!
