Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a creative and adventurous group of students. They are always willing to try something new, even when I tell them I have never tried it before either. We are learning how to have a growth mindset and learn to persevere when the going gets tough.
They love being creative technologically and they also love hands-on activities.
In the classroom, one main focus is on helping students work cooperatively with their teams as well as treating the whole class with respect and consideration. We are learning how to work together and how to be successful in our class.
My Project
Math is beautiful, visual and fun. While this is true, it is difficult for some kids to see this. Missing in many of our kids' lives are hands-on games that many of us grew up with. Playing games can be a great way to get kids doing Math Practice standards without them realizing it. While I love using technology in the classroom, I would like to balance it with manipulatives and games. This will help my class grow in their math skills and in their ability to play with others in a relaxed, safe environment. Besides helping their math skills, this will help my students with social skills and problem solving skills that naturally arise when playing with others.
By donating to our project, my students will be able to use math tools like Cuisenaire Rods and Unifix cubes to help bring a visual component to learning.
Having these tools and games, my hope is to help all my students love math, or at least help them to see that everyone can be a "math person".
