Help me give my students the ability to continue to grow in math. The centimeter cubes will help us with the measurement unit but also will be used as a manipulative to help us add and subtract.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Located in a high needs community, our school is striving to give our students every opportunity to be successful and foster a love for learning. I teach at a Title I school where 100% of my students receive lunch as part of the free and reduced price meal program. Many of my students come from low-income households. I truly believe in equal education for all children and this is my main goal on a daily basis. I refuse to allow being low-income to be an excuse for why my students and classroom don't have everything that my students need and deserve to become better readers and mathematicians.
Although many of them face adverse experiences in their home lives, my students come to school each day with an energy and excitement for learning and for each other.
As a teacher, it it my goal to continue to foster this energy and excitement. As a second year teacher, I lack the materials and resources to always make this happen but will continue to strive for excellence in my teaching!
Math always seems to get the back burner in a school where so many students struggle to even read. I am trying to change this in my classroom by giving the students the resources and tools they need to grow as mathematicians. The cubes will be used to measure during our measurement unit and also as manipulatives for them to add and subtract with. Many children learn better with hands on and this will allow them this help. The cubes link which will also make using them easier and more engaging. The game will help some of my lower students build a foundation and the containers will keep everything neat and tidy!
