Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students' literacy skills are keeping them from reaching their full potential. In addition, the budgetary crisis is causing my school to stop ordering books and other supplies.
Most of my students are classified as English language learners or former English language learners.
Their reading and writing skills are keeping many of them from being the best students that they can be. I worry that when they reach high school, their lack of literacy will cause them to fail. My children want to do well and be successful, but they lack the skills to make that possible.
My Project
I am requesting a math classroom library that will allow my students to learn about math while improving their literacy skills. There will be a variety of books that are at different reading levels so that there will be something for every ability and every interest. The improved reading skills that my students will gain will benefit them in every class that they take as well as in all walks of their lives. In addition, the added resource of short stories and novels will make the math curriculum come alive for many of the students.
Improvement in my students' reading ability is something that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
By having my students read books about math, they will be making progress in their reading while deepening their understanding of math. Please help!
