Help me give my students opportunities to apply math skills to solve real life problems. They need copies of the Scholastic MATH magazine.
Many people call me crazy, but I love Middle Level kids! They are impulsive and emotional voyagers struggling to bridge the gap between childhood and the teen years. They possess an intuitive sense that allows them to determine if a teacher's investment in them is honest and true.
I am amazed by the resilience and determination that my students possess in order to navigate the middle level culture.
They are in midst of the most critical years of development. It is during this time that valuable lessons are learned that will help to shape confident and productive adults. They are ever changing and complex individuals that I am privileged to teach.
I am going to utilize this monthly magazine to supplement my curriculum. I will have a copy for every 3 students, as it is rather expensive.
I plan on implementing examples from the magazine to illustrate that math is a necessary and fundamental component for life.
Another target goal will be to integrate Language Arts across the curriculum as the students must read to identify information in order to implement math processes. The magazine offers the opportunity to spark up my lessons with an outside resource.
Variety and cooperative learning are key components to engage Middle Level Students and I feel this magazine is dedicated to offering both. With education funding continuing to dwindle, I do not have these types of resources available, unless I purchase them myself.
