I want to provide a place for my students to work on areas of Math that they need to improve on. I want to set it up so I have a rotation groups in my room; one group is getting direct instruction, 2nd group is working on computer interventions, and 3rd is working independently on practice problems.
I work at a middle school, a low income school in the city of Milwaukie, Oregon.
My students have 60% free and reduce lunch. They come from different ethnic backgrounds. The most predominant are white, Hispanic, and Russian students. I also have 30% of my students who are SPED identified. 15% of them have math learning goals, meaning that they have a significant learning disability that prevents them from performing at grade level.
I teach 5 classes that average 25 students per class. It is very difficult to keep all of them engaged for the entire class period. This is especially true of students who struggle the most. I would like to have a place that self monitors their progress while I perform interventions with the ones that need the most help.
My Project
Students will learn at their skill level with the chromebooks to work on individualized internet software. They will feel less pressure to keep up and they will be engaged in material that is relevant to them.
These chromebooks will allow them to be well versed in the use of technology and put the accountability on them to complete targets as outlined by the software. Students who earn rewards do to their improvements, will be recognize class wide and feel good about themselves with their peers affirming their progress.
My project will give me more flexibility in my classroom.
It will allow me to differentiate for the various skill levels found throughout my various students and their abilities. I will be able to provide much needed intervention and also give advanced kids extension opportunities when their grasp of the material is advanced compared to other kids.
