Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My School is located in a small unincorporated area called Cutler-Orosi in Tulare County. The region is below the poverty line and the main source of income is through the agricultural industry. For many of my students their education is the only thing they have control over as their families face harsh economic and familial obstacles like single parent families and minimum wage jobs. Their is significant gang activity in this region and so the education staff does their best to combat that through influencing students to take pride in their school and offer activities that enrich their lives like sport clubs.
At my School we believe every student has the opportunity and the right to better the culture around them through education so we take pride in serving the community we do.
We are a Title I school and have a significant migrant student population. 60% of students are English Language Learners. Although these students face social setbacks they have the desire to learn and acquire educational success.
My Project
Students will have the privilege to present and to be instructed digitally. The reason in asking for an iPad Pro is to allow the teacher and the students to present from any given place in class and to give me the flexibility to assess that the content being taught is leading to proficient students in math standards through instructing them in any location instead of just being stuck in front of the class on the whiteboard.
Since I use metacognitive and reflective exercises in class to digest new content, the iPad Pro will allow the students to record verbal expression of their thinking and misconceptions.
The use of technology will familiarize the students to the available technology used in presenting as well help build confidence and comprehension through students presenting their own error analysis. It will also help by providing instruction through concrete means before getting to abstract rules and procedures.
