My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!

My Project

I am requesting a variety of learning tools in math that will make learning exciting. The use of math manipulatives has a long history with solid research supporting it. It is the position of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) that in order to develop every student’s mathematical proficiency, leaders and teachers must systematically integrate the use of concrete and virtual manipulatives into classroom instruction at all grade levels. Manipulatives can provide a bridge between the concrete and abstract levels of many mathematical topics. Manipluatives can also serve as models that support students’ as they think about, remember about, and communicate about the mathematics being studied. Additionally manipulatives provide another representation for the mathematics being studied. Manipulatives can also support student engagement and differentiation. Lastly, manipluatives can give students ownership of their own learning.

When students use math manipulatives to create and use representations to organize, record, and communicate their mathematical ideas, they begin to develop a more positive math disposition and take ownership of their own learning.

These items will be used in the classroom during math center time. These items will help my students learn math, as well as keep them interested and engaged.
