My Students

For some students math is the easiest part of the day, but for others, understanding math is a struggle. We as teachers need to find ways to engage students in the instruction and hands on materials are the best way.

My students are special needs students in a self contained special education classroom.

They learn best by doing and by interacting during the instruction as opposed to lecture type instruction. They are an inspiring and determined diverse group of learners.

My Project

I am requesting 3D geometric shapes, math folder games and Geo boards so that the students can work in small groups with teacher support to build upon their math understanding in fun ways. The folder games will engage the students in math while working on their social skills of playing games and the Geo boards and 3D geometric shapes will help them manipulate and understand shapes and geometry. Most of these students struggle with the basics math concepts. Getting materials in to their hands that are fun and that they can manipulate will help them grasp the simple concepts so they can build on them to understand more complex concepts.

My group of students are so diverse in their abilities and the ways they learn that any way that I can engage them in the instruction will benefit their understanding and growth of the concepts.
