Help me give my students a learning station for small groups for math class along with dryer sheets to help keep our materials and student's clothes clean!
I teach fifth grade math and my students are always working hard to meet their benchmark and goals. What I love the most about my students is that they always surprise me. My higher level students are always challenging their problem solving skills by wanting a higher level thinking question or wanting to achieve the highest score on an assignment. My average level students are always pushing to become better and want to learn even when they can get discouraged. My lower level students are secretly (guess not so secret anymore) some of my favorite to work with. Seeing my lower level math students get frustrated a lot of the times breaks my heart. No matter how many times I’ve sat at my desk wondering if I could ever reach them, I never gave up hope or faith in them. Seeing those students finally understand a standard or learn a “quick trick” is why my students are worth every investment I’ve made in my career. Nothing makes me prouder than a kid who has never passed their Math SOL in the past finally get a passing score, even if it is just barely past the benchmark makes everyday worth it.
My Project
The students LOVE group work! The only challenge that makes group work hard is the amount of space (or lack of space) in the classroom. In order to facilitate small groups better, I need a bigger table to sit fifth grade students. Right now the table I have is from when I taught second grade and I'm in need of a larger one!
Along with needing a kidney table for small groups for math class, we also need more dryer sheets to help out the nurse and keeping backpacks and lunch boxes clean!
With this table, I could ensure the students are getting the independent practice and instruction they need!
