I am a 4th grade teacher, but I am excited to say that next year I am being promoted to 5th grade with ALL my students.
As my students begin a new grade level, I need to update materials for them to provide continuing challenge and engagement.
My students will be transitioning from learning about our state, to learning about our nation. In addition, they'll be building on math concepts like fractions, decimals, multiplication, and division. My students love to play games, and have enjoyed learning new ones together!
My Project
My students love to learn through games. There are many academic games available that make learning fun, accessible, and engaging. The states and capitals games are particularly important for my students next year as we begin learning the 50 states and capitals. Game of the States and Sell the States give students a way to memorize the states and capitals without just studying flash cards. Some of my students have not left our state, so learning about these places in a game is an important way to bring concepts to life outside of a textbook.
Math games like Mathological Liar are a huge draw for my students.
We have the 4th grade version. Students work in groups of 4 to read the alibis of the suspects. If their suspect's math is wrong, they're guilty! Say Cheese is a game that will help students master multiplication facts.
