Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a classroom of 18 students in a high-poverty school in New Mexico. Our school receives 100% free breakfast and lunch and has a basic school supply bank for students. My students love to learn, explore, get dirty, sing songs, act out stories, and work together. Every day, I see the excitement, energy, and the light in their eyes when they have mastered a concept or are introduced to new ideas. Together, we learn from each other, we grow both academically and mentally, and have created a home away from home in our classroom.
My Project
Students learn when they play games and classroom activities are fun and engaging. I will work in small groups with students in order to teach them how to share, take turns, count and be math number experts. I hope that the skills that they learn in my class will help them complete their homework bags.
These bags will be used to send more hands-on activities for homework and less pencil and paper.
Many parents struggle to get students to learn at home because homework is boring. I hope to engage students at school and at home. I want to send games, manipulatives, and hands-on activities home.
