Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are all ESOL students that have been in the country less than 2 years. They are incredible humans with a strong desire to learn the customs and language on this country. With all the challenges they face, they manage to work through difficulties and obstacles with kindness and grace. They work so hard and I am so proud of them!
My students are from many countries around the world with varying math and educational backgrounds.
Their needs are diverse but they are all very motivated and eager to learn. My classes are highly differentiated and I like to use math games in order to allow students at different levels to interact and learn from each other. They students enjoy this way of learning and often request for more ways to work together with math educational games. It is wonderful to see them communicating and working together, even though they may not speak the same language and come from differing cultures. It is a fascinating experience that we can all learn from.
My Project
My student will benefit from these math games by engaging with other students and their family members. These math/educational games will allow them to practice math skills, expand their content knowledge and work on acquiring language and social skills. All important for newly arrived ESOL students.
When competing in team playing the game "24", students work in to solve math problems and must use their knowledge of multiples and factors in order to quickly solve the problems and move on to the next round.
This brings out a competitive nature and motivates the students to work together as a team.
